Overview

We have made the PowerPoint consisting of 13 slides about 5 slides are an intro into quantum mechanics and theory of relativity. The rest of the slides explain what string theory is and how it tries to join quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity. The slides also explain how everything is made from strings and we also scratch the surface about branes. We have made a follow along sheet for students to use as a study guide and we also made an assessment which will also be used as the questions for the final. We are going to do two labs one is to explain how strings act and how they are the same for an electron as a proton just vibrating at a different frequency . The other lab is a lab explains how graviton, photon, and electron can be represented using strings and what they look like and how they differ from one another.

Teacher Meeting

November 6 Today we met with the teacher and went over what we are going to do for the project. We agreed on making a follow along with power point. We will start off on explaining the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. Then we will begin with string theory and how string theory is trying to combined both of these concepts. Then we will have a the students answer some of the questions and we will grade them on the worksheet they complete. Then we will do 2 small activities. The First involves a rope and the less energy put into the rope by making waves this is an example of something we can see. Then the faster you move it is like a string moving through different dimensions. The next activity involves a slinky and using it to show the strings in a photon graviton and a proton.

Project Proposal Revised

We will be doing string theory and learning what string theory is. We want to explain how there are several dimensions in the form of a PowerPoint. We intend to explain the physics behind string theory. We will create a worksheet and a lab and design them to engage the students in a fun and informative learning experience.
